We are thrilled to have someone with a household name like Jonathan Safran Foer making the case for veganism. While he isn't out there in the world, screaming GO VEGAN from the rooftops - we quite frankly don't care. If that is a problem to you, then don't buy his book. Go scream it yourself and then pat yourself on the back.
This is the story of a person who learns what happens to animals in our world, and who then DOES something about it. His book has the power to inform the masses of people who aren't willing to consider that what they eat actually does make a difference. Eating Animals will educate, inform, transform and reaffirm many people.
A Book About A Bike Ride
Revolution Summer 2
80 pages, over 40 color and b/w photos
by Josh Hooten
$9.00
In May, 2009 I rode my bike from Portland, OR to Farm Sanctuary in Orland, CA. This ride was to mark my 10th year being vegan and to raise money for the animals at the farm. There was a lot of adventure, some epic scenery, some gut checking mountains to cross, and a whole lot of fun. In the end I had ridden 604 miles and had raised almost $13,000. This book takes you from birth of the idea, through my planning and winter training rides, and all along the route down the Pacific Coast. Included are over 40 color and black and white photos chronicling the journey.
Part travel journal, part adventure story, part "andybody can get out there and do something positive for the animals" tale, this book will hopefully be a lot of fun for you to read and perhaps inspire something in you as well. Each book comes with a cool revolution summer sticker!

This book was recommended to us by a friend who is gluten-free, vegan & a total food snob. When somone as good a cook as Miss Kittee gives a cookbook a shout it's gotta count for something.
A little over half the book will satisfy your sweet cravings. Some recipes are straight up delicious desserts like pies, frosted cakes and cookies. You will also find morning recipes for pastries sweetened without sugar. But, unlike a lot of baking cookbooks, this one really impresses with savory items like hearty breads, pockets, soups and salads. Also important to note is that it has an easy to read layout and plenty of beautiful full-color photos.
Recipes to get you drooling: Gnocchi with Herbed Pistou, Russian Potato & Cabbage Piroshki, Italian Mushroom Apron Pockets, Sweet Potato Rosemary Bread, Apricot Thumbprint cookies, Earl Grey Teacake... I could go on, but, really, you get the point!
*note: some recipes call for honey. just use agave or maple syrup. booyah!
Woo! Herbivore & the Vegan Mini Mall get a shout out in The Oregonian from newbie vegan Grant Butler. Thanks, Grant!
