I was lying in bed this morning, looking at Instagram. Josh is in CA for @veganstreetfair (go see him!!!) and the dogs had woken me for their breakfast, and of course, I couldn't go back to sleep. Scrolling through pics, seeing all that happened the night before in the life of the @herbivoreclothing feed.... I happened upon a bakery in London called The Fields Beneath.
It seems the owners of a typical coffee shop in London had a vegan awakening, what I like to call their #ahavegan moment, a few months ago. I don't know what or how that happened (I didn't look at every pic in their feed!!) but I know that this cafe / coffee shop served up animals until recently, and has slowly removed meat, cheese and now all dairy products from their menu, and from the cafe altogether. And from the looks of it, they are doing so with such class and care, in hopes to take all of their customers on the journey with them. AMAZING!
I'm going to reach out and ask them what the instance was that caused the change. I applaud their bravery in taking their business with them. I imagine that would be scary - customers like their routine. They have their "usuals" and don't anticipate being ethically challenged while ordering coffee! But these moments of AHA! are so damn powerful!
I remember the moment when my mind was opened to the reality of the lies told about how animals people think of as food are treated. It felt like such a betrayal. And my unknowing endorsement of that inherent cruelty is where my #ahavegan moment began. But that's a story for another day.
